What is filler dissolving?

Filler dissolving is a treatment that uses an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down hyaluronic acid dermal filler. It can be used to correct unwanted results, treat complications or prepare an area for fresh treatment. What types of filler can be dissolved?

Hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers. Most modern lip, chin, cheek, jawline, tear trough, smile line and marionette fillers are hyaluronic acid-based and can usually be dissolved.

Can all dermal fillers be dissolved?

No. Hyaluronidase only dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers. Permanent fillers and some non-hyaluronic acid products cannot be dissolved using this treatment. During your consultation, we'll discuss what type of filler you have received and whether dissolving is possible.

Do I need to know what filler was used?

It's helpful if you know the brand of filler you previously had, but it isn't always essential. If you're unsure, we'll discuss your treatment history during your consultation and advise on the safest course of action.

Do all filler concerns need dissolving?

How does filler dissolving work?

Hyaluronidase is carefully injected into the area containing hyaluronic acid filler. The enzyme breaks down the filler, allowing your body to naturally absorb and remove it over the following hours and days.

How quickly does filler dissolve?

The enzyme starts working almost immediately, and many clients notice changes within 24 to 48 hours. Depending on the amount and type of filler present, additional treatment sessions may sometimes be required.

Will all of my filler disappear?

Our aim is to dissolve only the amount of filler necessary to achieve the desired outcome. In some cases, complete dissolving is recommended, while in others only a small adjustment may be needed. Your treatment plan will always be discussed with you beforehand.

Can filler be replaced after dissolving?

Yes. Many clients choose to have fresh dermal filler after dissolving. In most cases, we recommend allowing the area to fully settle before replacing the filler, although timing varies depending on the reason for dissolving and your individual circumstances. Does filler dissolving hurt?

Most clients find treatment very manageable. A series of small injections is used, and any discomfort is usually brief.

Is there any downtime?

There is very little downtime. Mild swelling, redness or tenderness can occur immediately after treatment, but these effects usually settle within a few days.

Is filler dissolving safe?

What happens if I don't know who treated me?

That's not usually a problem. As long as we have enough information about your treatment history and can assess the area safely, we'll advise you on whether filler dissolving is appropriate.
